DENMAN

1938
Jack Denman Dean, a prominent polymer scientist, designs and patents the
first Denman hairbrush known later as the 'D3'.
1939
Dean is seconded to the USA military to assist with top secret intelligence
projects.
1945
After WW2, Dean establishes two companies - Denman Products Ltd and Denman
Tools Ltd - in Welwyn Garden City in Hertfordshire. |
1950s
Dean employs Freddie French and other hairdressers of international renown
on a consultancy basis in the development of the Denman brush and comb
range.
1959
Dean wins ICI Design Award for pioneering product development using new
plastics materials.
1966
Dean retires back to his birthplace in Northern Ireland. The Denman companies
are sold to the Lindsay & Williams Group. Manufacturing of Denman brushes
is relocated to Ulster Plastics Limited in Northern Ireland.
1970s
Denman brushes are championed by Vidal Sassoon as the best tools for achieving
his innovative 'bob' styles when blow-styling.
1972
Ulster Plastics is purchased by Martin Rainey Limited and the name changed
to Denroy Plastics Limited.
1974
Production of Denman brushes doubles over the next four consecutive years.
 1979
A second factory opens to cope with demand.
1980s
Denroy rapidly expands the Denman range introducing new curling brushes
and vent brush designs.
1990
USA subsidiary company - Denman, Inc - is established in Boston.
1998
The Denman brand celebrates 60 years. Denroy Plastics Limited changes its
name to Denman International Limited.
