| RAZOR BUMPS | |||||
| PFB (Pseudofolliculitis Barbae)commonly known as”RAZOR BUMPS” Although the precise mode of action is unclear, Dr. Nicholas Perricone, clinical dermatologist, and author of a study on Glycolic Acid's effects on PFB, provides three basic theories: Glycolic Acid based lotions soften the thick coarse hair, so it cannot puncture and re-enter the skin. 2. Glycolic Acid may alter the chemical bonding of the emerging hair protein, causing the hair to grow straighter, thereby decreasing the chance of the hair re-entering the skin. 3. Glycolic Acid loosens the dead outer layer, and allows the hair to surface more easily. According to Dr. Perricone’s study, a Glycolic Acid based lotion was significantly effective for treating “razor bumps.” There was over a 60 percent reduction in lesions, and patients were able to shave daily with minimum irritation and increased comfort. Dr. Perricone is Clinical Instructor in Dermatology at Yale Medical School, New Haven, Connecticut, and Chief of Dermatology at the State of Connecticut Veterans Hospital, Rocky Hill, Connecticut. He is also in private practice in Meriden, Connecticut.

Q: Does pulling out gray hair causes more gray hair? A: Pulling out gray hair will only result in less hair. Chances are another one will take it's place and it too will be gray. If you are concern over gray hair, make an appointment for a consultation and discuss it with a professional. You will be surprised at the options available.

| If you're traveling and/or if you have just relocated , you may decide you need the services of a beauty expert. Here are some suggestions, as to how to go about and what to look for. Whether you find yourself in a supermarket, bakery, bank, or a bus station, look for someone's hair you like. Not necessarily at the particular hairstyle, but whether or not is well executed. It could be a very controlled or a disheveled style; conservative or avant-garde : it does not really matter. What to look for is: Is it done well? Does the front, sides and back, have a flowing continuity? Does it look healthy and polished? Look for proportion and visual balance? Does it suit the face, body, mode of dressing and personality of the individual wearing it? Are they happy? What to do: Pay them a compliment and ask them for the name, address and phone number of their hairstylist. Take their name as a reference also. Go there and have a manicure and/or a blow-dry. While there, ask them for a complimentary consultation on cut and color. Do you like what they have to say? Are you comfortable with the music, decor and temperament of the salon/stylist? Make an appointment for another time. Good luck!
